INTERN EXPECTATIONS
In addition to participating in classroom training, RVLDP Interns are expected to actively participate on a nonprofit board of directors.
Prior to the Board Training Experience
Preview all organization participation information provided prior to the Board Training Organization Fair, and participate in the Fair.
Select three board training organizations you would be interested in working with.
During the Board Training Experience
Request the calendar of all scheduled board and committee meetings.
Attend all board and committee meetings in a manner agreed upon with the Board Coach.
Communicate regularly with the Board Coach.
Review the printed materials provided by the organization, learning as much as possible about the organization, it's mission, and those it serves. Get to know the staff and volunteers.
Network with classmates, sharing experiences, insights and the challenges of the practical board experience in relation to the theory presented in class.
Provide a written summary of the board training experience at each class session.
Working with the Board Coach and the committee chair, determine project work and timeline within the first month of the board training experience; work to complete the project/committee work by the month prior to graduation (some projects may continue beyond graduation).
Maintain confidentiality.
After the Board Training Experience
Prepare a Final Report (or progress report if the project is ongoing) for class presentation.
